26.47

Regarding the Commentary's statement 'the three transformations of the pure land in the Lotus Sūtra,' this is in the 'Treasure Stūpa' chapter. Mahāpratibhāna requested the opening of the stūpa door, and the Buddha said: 'The emanated bodies must be gathered.' Mahāpratibhāna requested the gathering of the emanated Buddhas. The World-Honoured One radiated light to summon them from afar; in order to receive the emanated Buddhas, he transformed the Sahā world once; second, in each of the eight directions he further transformed two hundred myriad koṭis of nayutas of lands, causing them all to be pure, yet the seats for the Buddhas were still insufficient; third, he further transformed two hundred myriad koṭis of nayutas of lands, causing them all to be pure. Hence it says three transformations.
