Regarding the commentary's "Now, regarding the initial three verses, if one clings to a self" and so forth: the commentary text has two parts: first, a general setting forth of the two contemplations; second, from "Speaking in terms of the general characteristics" onward, explaining the sūtra text. In this, it first explains according to the contemplation of the two emptinesses, and then explains according to the contemplation of the applications of mindfulness (smṛtyupasthāna). Now, regarding the first: the contemplation of the two emptinesses means that the analysis of dhātus and the four applications of mindfulness both clarify the two emptinesses; therefore, it organizes the sūtra text by means of the two emptinesses.
