In the commentary, from "Regarding the subsequent causes and conditions…" below, repeats the sūtra text to separately explain the meaning of causes and conditions. There are two parts within it: first, briefly explaining through meaning; second, from "The Yogācāra below says…" below, citing texts to explain. Within that are three parts: first, citing the Yogācāra; next, citing the Awakening of Faith; finally, harmonizing with the present sūtra. In the first, besides causes and conditions, four powers are added. Conditions refer to the cognitive objects seen and heard; causes refer to internal arousal; powers refer to capable agency. However, the previous four causes directly regard the arousing of the mind to clarify power and function: self-power is aroused from the causal nature of the lineage; other-power is gathered in by good friends; causal power is arousing compassion by oneself; power of applied practice is long-term austerity. Furthermore, when the four powers are accomplished, they are named causes, as they are capable of directly arousing [it].
