The Commentary states: "First, explaining the perfection of location." This provides the heading. The treatise states: "Is the extent of such a pure land equal to the three realms of existence, or is it not so? (question). It transcends the realm traversed by the three realms of existence (answer)." The treatise's commentary says: "This means the site and domain of the great palace transcends the realm traversed by the three realms of existence. It is not like attachment to phenomena of one's own sphere in the three realms, which clings to them as one's own, where the two bonds of cognitive object and mental association increase accordingly, being the maturation and dominant fruit thereof. Since such a pure land is not grasped by craving of the three realms, is free from the two bonds, and is not their maturation or dominant fruit, it transcends the grounds of maturation fruits of the three realms, just like nirvāṇa and so forth. Furthermore, it asks: Is such a pure land located in the same place as the three realms, or are they distinct? (question). One position holds: It is distinct; some say it is in the Śuddhāvāsa Devas, and some say it is in the west, and so forth. Another position holds: It is in the same place; the pure land is round without boundaries, because it pervades the dharmadhātu. As for the definitive meaning: The real enjoyment land completely pervades the dharmadhātu and is nowhere absent; it cannot be said to be apart from the location of the three realms, nor can it be said to be identical with the location of the three realms. If manifested according to what is suitable for bodhisattvas, some are above the Śuddhāvāsa Devas in the rūpadhātu, and some are in the west, and so forth, their location being indeterminate." Commentary: The present commentary directly adopts its essentials and also takes up the definitive meaning.
