The Commentary states: "It may also be that together with the preceding general heading, it comprehensively concludes the preceding eighteen perfections," and so forth. In the preceding, there were two past, nine future, and three present, amounting to only fourteen. Below, among the human treasures, there are five activities, divided between Buddha and bodhisattvas, which are then restated. Excluding the rest, when restating the eighteen, how are they subsumed? Now, the general heading text is the perfection of the master, because it speaks of the Buddha-land. Among the specific [items], twenty-nine phrases contain seventeen perfections: 1. Adornment. 2. Purity, which is the perfection of cause. The Buddhabhūmi-sūtra says: "Produced from worldly-transcending roots of goodness." Now, through purity, it is worldly-transcending; through its adornment, it is the adornment produced, because it is adorned with myriad good deeds. 3 and 4 are activity, because it is equal and wonderfully fine. 5 is the path, because great mindfulness, wisdom, and conduct constitute majesty and virtue. 6 and 7 are dwelling place, being vast and peaceful. 8 is supporters, being indestructible. 9 is retinue, being inexhaustible. 10 is extent, being boundless. 11 is support, being immovable. 12 is fearlessness, identical in name. 13 is manifest-colour, which is radiance. 14 is non-contrariety. 15 is delightfulness; both are the perfection of gathered benefit, because freedom from the contrariety of kleśas and disasters makes it delightful. 16 is illumination. 17 is fine adornment; both are the fruit, having the utmost purity as their characteristic. 18 is exquisite beauty. 19 is wonderful skill. 20 is foremost; all are support, because it is adorned with assemblies of countless virtues and established by assemblies of great jewel-lotus kings. 21, 22, 23, and 24 are all perfection of gateways, because the three gateways of liberation are supreme and so forth. 25 and 26 are both the vehicle, which is great śamatha and wonderful vipaśyanā, being unexcelled and so forth. 27 is unequalled. 28 is matchless. 29 is incomparable; all are location, because pervading the nature of the dharmadhātu, it does not stand alongside what is truly real, having no comparison. The sūtra's purport contains much; this is a brief correlation and is not necessarily exclusively so. Hence the Commentary briefly indicates, "causing one to reflect in accordance with the principle."
