In the commentary, “Also called prātimokṣa” and so forth is the third name. “Distinguished from [the morality of] concentration and the path” means it is not the two moralities concurrent with concentration and concurrent with the path. It is freedom from the bondages of karmic conditions, and thus is called liberation. In the commentary, “Also translated as ‘concordant liberation’” is a distinct meaning within the third name. Hence the Bequeathed Teaching Sūtra says: “Morality is the foundation of rightly according with liberation, hence it is called prātimokṣa.” Furthermore, the Sandhinirmocana-sūtra says: “The fivefold dharmakāya is called liberation.” In Sanskrit it is vimokṣa. If it is the liberation of nirvāṇa, in Sanskrit it is mokṣa. Based on this, it can also derive its name conjointly from cause and fruit, because “concordance” is the cause. Furthermore, the Kandingshi says: “Leaving faults behind without hindrance is called *amokṣa. Karmic functions without obstruction is called vimokṣa.” It also says: “There is further an alternate name, uparakṣā. This is the Vinaya name of non-Buddhists in the Western Regions. It is also called rājanīti (the character dī being pronounced tí). This is the name for royal law in the Western Regions.”
