Fourth, the section on turning away from fruition. In the Commentary, from "Now first, the reason for explaining beforehand" onwards, the text of the Commentary has six parts: 1. the incoming meaning; 2. from "However, the reason for entering" onwards, the purpose of entering; 3. from "In order to counter saṃsāra" onwards, the establishment; 4. from "These four all take as object" onwards, explaining the general name; 5. from "If in terms of the general characteristic" onwards, identifying the essence; 6. from "In the text" onwards, explaining the text. In the fourth part, the Commentary connects the teachings from beginning to end; in accordance with fascicle nine of the Mahāsaṃnipāta-sūtra, which says: "That the mind-nature of all sentient beings is fundamentally pure is called loving-kindness (maitrī). Contemplating all as equal to empty space is called compassion (karuṇā). Severing all joys is called sympathetic joy (muditā). Departing from all conditioned activities is called equanimity (upekṣā)." This applies to both the final and sudden teachings. If explained according to the perfect teaching, as in the "Chapter on Transcending the World" below, each has ten meanings, complete interpenetration, and so forth.
