Regarding the commentary's phrase “Namely, awaiting the time to transform them as in the [chapter on] ‘Transcending the World’,” that text has ten kinds of pure equanimity, yet there are two kinds of awaiting the time, both of which apply here. First, the fourth equanimity says: “The pure equanimity of awaiting the time to transform sentient beings who are vessels of the Dharma, while not harboring dislike toward those who are not vessels.” The explanation says: Here it only uses awaiting the time for vessels of the Dharma. Second, the ninth equanimity says: “Or there are sentient beings whose faculties have already matured and who generate insightful mindfulness, yet are not yet able to know the supreme Dharma: the pure equanimity of awaiting the time to transform them.” Here this is applied completely; hence the commentary says, “Temporarily leaving them aside for now.”
