Regarding the Commentary's 'Question: How do these two differ?' onward: this is a question-and-answer sorting. First is the question; later, from 'The former two' onward is the answer. That is to say, the former two separately knowing the accomplishment of wisdom is like separately knowing the materia medica; separately clarifying the accomplishment of entering is like separately clarifying the pulse manual. Now, this is knowing the disease based on the pulse and administering the herbal medicine. As for 'The path of teaching is to transform living beings': the text lacks [the words] 'teaching' and 'realization', so each contains them; the words 'teaching' and 'realization' were in the preceding general section. Teaching, transforming, and taming is the path of teaching; 'causing them to attain liberation' is the path of realization. Within these three vehicles, both of these are fully present, because in the general section of the text of the treatise sūtra it only says: 'After this bodhisattva abides in the Stage of Good Wisdom, he knows in accordance with reality such differentiated characteristics of the various practices of living beings, and according to their liberation provides the causes and conditions.' There are no words about teaching, transforming, and taming. When it comes to the dharmas to be known in this sūtra, the treatise sūtra conversely says: 'This bodhisattva knows in accordance with reality the dharma for transforming living beings, knows in accordance with reality the dharma for ferrying across living beings, expounds the dharma of the śrāvaka vehicle, expounds the dharma of the pratyekabuddha vehicle, expounds the dharma of the bodhisattva vehicle, and knows in accordance with reality the dharma of the stage of the Tathāgata.' The explanation of the treatise says: 'What is it? Expounding in accordance with what is known, because the vessel of liberation is ripened (which is the path of teaching), and because the essence of liberation is correctly ferried across (which is the path of realization).' The Commentary relies on the treatise sūtra's having the meanings of teaching and realization, yet takes the words such as 'teaching and transforming' from the previous text, and hence says they are contained.
