Regarding the commentary's statement 'Second, explaining the essence' and so forth: this cites two treatises that mutually support each other—the ninth fascicle of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha and the third fascicle of the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa. The two cognitions are fundamental [cognition] and subsequently attained [cognition]; the two abandonments are the abandonment of afflictions and [the abandonment of the cognitive] knowable [obscurations]. Because this sūtra is the perfect teaching, it 'pervades everything.' Below it says: 'Attaining the measure of all dharmas as equal to the three wheels, self and other being equal, and cause and effect mutually interpenetrating'—with such meanings as these, it therefore pervades everything.
