Second, in explaining the meaning of the distance of the lands, the sūtra states: 'In each of the ten directions there was a great bodhisattva, each accompanied by bodhisattvas as numerous as the dust motes of a buddha-land, who came to assemble from worlds beyond lands as numerous as the dust motes of a hundred thousand buddha-lands.' Whereas the ten abodes spoke of the dust motes of a hundred lands, this stage speaks of a hundred thousand, which explains the expansion and increase of ascending wisdom. The deluded mind and various objects constitute the measure of the dust motes; the dwelling place of deluded attachment is named a 'land'. The mind turning in accordance with objects is named 'beyond various lands'. When attachment perishes and wisdom tallies, it is named 'coming'. This explains that wisdom is universal, and there is no object it does not reach; the same applies to each bodhisattva of the same designation. It comprehensively explains the universality of wisdom that penetrates delusion.
