Second, just as all wells and springs in the world have the ocean as their essence, and whoever drinks from them attains the ocean's taste, of one essence without difference, though according to the power of their karma they do not perceive the salty taste, this sūtra is also like this: if sentient beings of great aspiration hear, retain, believe, and enter it, they directly attain the taste of the Tathāgata's dharmakāya, Buddha-nature, great compassion, and wisdom. Icchantikas have no capacity for it, yet the Tathāgata's wisdom-nature constantly acts as the cause of generation [for them].
