The first assembly under the Bodhi tree at the bodhimaṇḍa was by the Nairañjanā River, five li away from the village of Uruvilvā-kāśyapa, at a distance within the roar of a bull, where he attained the Way in an araṇya. In terms of worldly dharmas, this is the rule for transforming sentient beings; the Buddha has no such thing. Even ascending to heaven is entirely a rule symbolically represented. As for the Tathāgata, because his wisdom-body is universally omnipresent throughout the ten directions, constantly pervasive without coming or going, he manifests a physical form in response. This clarifies that by establishing models for the world, there is something that can be emulated. This section is the gate wherein the Tathāgata cites his own fruition-dharmas to encourage sentient beings to cultivate practice.
