3.20

Eighth, as for Dharma Master Jizang of the Tang dynasty establishing three teachings: they refer to the three wheels of Dharma. First, the root wheel of Dharma, which is the Buddhāvataṃsaka Sūtra, expounded at the very beginning; second, the branch wheel of Dharma, which is the three vehicles and so forth, expounded subsequently; third, the wheel of Dharma that gathers the branches back to the root, which is the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka Sūtra, expounding after forty years the teaching of turning back the three to enter the one.
