Ninth, the Tathāgata emitted light from his mouth to consecrate the mouth of Samantabhadra. The light from the mouth is the light of the Buddha's teaching, intending to have Samantabhadra employ discriminating wisdom to expound the Dharma gate of the Buddha's manifestation and fruit-virtues. Through the Buddha emitting light, Mañjuśrī only then knew where to direct his questions on the Dharma. Holy wisdom inherently knows itself, yet it now employs the seal of the Buddha-Dharma to establish a model for the future. These are nine emissions of light that constitute the principles of the entire sūtra from beginning to end, synthesizing and integrating the gates of cause and effect, essence and function, across the preceding five stages. Because these three figures are never separated from beginning to end, this clarifies that the Tathāgata is the fruition of the two figures, Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra.
