Fifth, the laywoman Bhadrottamā shows that she is fully conversant in worldly medical formulas and various arts, as well as in both mundane and supramundane matters; there is no method for pacifying beings and sustaining life that she does not thoroughly understand. Abiding in the dust of the world, she skillfully benefits beings: at times passing down worldly occult divinations that were previously unmastered, at times acting as an excellent physician with good medicines to rescue the world from disease and distress; distinguishing treasures to determine the genuine and the false, and standardising terms to explain texts and meanings. There is no extraordinary talent or uncommon wisdom that she does not universally master, and she is able to subdue ghosts, demons, and all manner of heterodoxies. She embraces the wisdom-ocean of Samantabhadra and equals the dharmakāya of Mañjuśrī. The fruit of buddhahood is present in her person, spiritually transforming all that exists; there is no direction she does not reach, no world she does not encompass; there is no practice she does not cultivate, no being she does not deliver. Out of compassion, she manifests in a female form; with no wisdom that is not luminous, she is named Bhadrottamā ("Virtuous and Superior"). She presides over the gate of the pāramitā of dhyāna. As for the city named Vartana, which translates as "increasing joy," it is named after virtue, as she greatly benefits people and greatly increases joyful affairs. Her obtaining the bodhimaṇḍa without a resting place means that dharmas have no resting place and her body likewise has no resting place; because she encompasses the myriad practices, practice has no substantial essence. She resides in South India.
