[Fascicle] 80: The youth Sudhana received Maitreya's instruction, gradually traveled through one hundred and ten cities, and arrived at Sumanā City in the country of Samantamukha. Abiding at its gate, he contemplated Mañjuśrī, observing in accord [with his teachings]. At that time Mañjuśrī extended his right hand from afar, across one hundred and ten yojanas, rubbed the crown of Sudhana's head, expounded the Dharma for him, and caused him to enter the bodhimaṇḍa of Samantabhadra's practices. Mañjuśrī then withdrew his hand and vanished. Thereupon Sudhana contemplated and observed, single-mindedly aspiring to see Mañjuśrī, as well as seeing the good spiritual friends numerous as the dust motes of a great trichiliocosm to attend upon and make offerings to them. Yearning with thirst to see Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, right before the lion throne at the Vajragarbha Bodhimaṇḍa, upon a seat composed of all-jewel lotus treasuries, he gave rise to an expansive mind equal to the realm of empty space. Having seen ten kinds of auspicious signs and further seen ten kinds of signs of light, he gathered all his sense faculties and single-mindedly sought to see [him]. At that time, Sudhana immediately saw Samantabhadra seated upon a lion throne before the Tathāgata, most extraordinary among the assembly of the bodhisattva host. From every single pore [of his body] he emitted lights as numerous as dust motes, which pervaded all worlds throughout empty space, extinguishing the suffering of sentient beings and generating great joy. Furthermore, in thought-moment after thought-moment he brought forth various fragrant clouds, pervading the dharmadhātu and the realm of empty space, widely performing Buddha-activities. Having seen this, [Sudhana] was immediately endowed with the ten pāramitās. When Samantabhadra rubbed the crown of his head, he immediately attained gates of samādhi as numerous as the fine dust motes of all buddha lands, and everywhere saw Samantabhadra throughout the worlds of the ten directions, in each and every dust mote, entirely like this. Next Samantabhadra spoke verses, and again spoke one hundred and ninety lines of verse for the bodhisattvas in praise of the Buddha.
