Second is the gate of similarities and differences. Throughout this sūtra, the tathāgatagarbha is explained in six places in total: First, the "Chapter on the Tathāgatagarbha" explains that the tathāgatagarbha is extremely profound, not the realm of the three wisdoms; up to the explanation of the truths, it speaks of the garbha's depth, analogizing the depth of the truths to the depth of the garbha. Second, the "Chapter on the Hidden and Veiled Meaning of Emptiness" explains that the Buddha knows that the active concealer is empty and that what is concealed is not empty, and that the Buddha possesses both the wisdoms of emptiness and non-emptiness; this discriminates empty and non-empty within the single truth of cessation in order to complete the meaning of the single truth of cessation. Third, the chapter "Perverted and Real" explains the functional meaning of the tathāgatagarbha as the foundation and support for all defilement and purity. Fourth, the end of the chapter "Perverted and Real" clarifies that the tathāgatagarbha transcends all marks, which clarifies the meaning that what is concealed is empty; failing to understand conditions constitutes perversion, which means that the active concealer is not empty. Fifth, it explains that the tathāgatagarbha has the meaning of five garphas. Sixth, it explains that the tathāgatagarbha is intrinsically pure yet defiled by defilements. This clarifies that the buddhadhātu has six aspects, whereby its meaning is complete and sufficient.
