Third, as for the approach of identity and difference: these four have identities and differences with the previous [exposition of] not forgetting or losing the saddharma. Above there were five phrases: 1. saddharma; 2. ekayāna; 3. pāramitā; 4. aspiration for the Mahāyāna; 5. aspiration for the saddharma. The previous "saddharma" is the present saddharma of principle; the previous "Mahāyāna" is the present saddharma of fruit; the previous "pāramitā" and the "two aspirations" are the present saddharma of practice. However, above it extensively manifested the meaning of not forgetting or losing, and therefore divided them into three; now it forms cause and fruit, and therefore subsumes the three into one. Above it only clarified one's own practice, and therefore did not discuss teaching; now it fully possesses both one's own practice and transforming others, and therefore has eighty-four thousand teaching approaches.
