Seventh is the section on the stages of severing delusion. The meaning of severing delusion has separate major chapters. If we rely on the Tripiṭaka Master: the ten faiths subdue [what is severed by] seeing the truth; the ten understandings sever [what is severed by] seeing the truth; the ten understandings subdue [what is severed by] cultivation; the ten practices sever [what is severed by] cultivation. From the seventh mind of the ten practices onward, they subdue ignorance and the traces of the four entrenchments. From the first stage onward, they sever ignorance and the traces of the four entrenchments. Now, according to the general meaning here, the four entrenchments are severed by the two vehicles, and ignorance is completely severed at the Buddha stage. If we rely on the preceding text, the three—the arhat, the pratyekabuddha, and the bodhisattva of great power—together undergo transformative birth-and-death. If that is so, then the two vehicles and the bodhisattva of the first stage equally sever the four entrenchments completely, and from the first stage to the Buddha stage they sever ignorance. That which is not exhausted has already been explained in the Bodhisattvabhūmi and the Commentary on the Lotus Sūtra.
