經曰「設我得佛」至「不取正覺」者，述云：此第五、不離諸佛願也。普者即普遍義，等者即齊等義。所見普廣，佛佛皆見故，所住之定名為普等。

The sūtra says: "If, when I attain Buddhahood..." up to "may I not attain complete enlightenment." The commentary states: This is the fifth, the vow of never being parted from the buddhas. "Universal" (samanta) means everywhere-pervading; "equal" means uniform. Because that which is seen is universal and vast, and every single buddha is seen, the samādhi in which one abides is named "Universal and Equal" (samantānugata).
