經曰「授菩薩記成等正覺」者，述云：此後：獲果之教也。「授菩薩記」者，即論云「令得決定心」故。記者，識也別也。授者與也。聖說當果，令識因利，故云授記。「成等覺」者，即所記之果也。

The sūtra says: "Bestowing predictions on bodhisattvas of attaining equal, correct awakening." The commentary states: This subsequent part is the teaching on obtaining the fruition. Regarding 'bestowing predictions on bodhisattvas': this is as the treatise says, "causing them to attain a resolute mind." 'Prediction' (記) means recognizing and distinguishing. 'Bestowing' (授) means giving. The Noble One speaks of the future fruition to make them recognize the benefits of the cause, hence it is called 'bestowing a prediction'. 'Attaining equal awakening' is the fruition that is predicted.
