3.16

經曰「假使不能」至「願生彼國」者，述云：此後、別釋。有三：此初、本有修因也。當發菩提心者，即簡定性終不向大，故不違《觀經》之文。

On the sūtra passage from 'Even if unable' to 'aspire to be born in that land': The Commentary states: This latter [part] provides individual explanations. There are three [points]: this is the first, the cause cultivated during fundamental existence. Stating that they should arouse the bodhi-mind is meant to exclude those of determinate nature who ultimately do not turn toward the Great [Vehicle]; thus it does not conflict with the text of the Visualization Sūtra.
