Language
Classical Chinese

3.98

The sūtra says: "Why not abandon various affairs" down to "what joy do you seek?" The commentary states: Next, it admonishes them to cultivate renunciation. "Man" (曼) is pronounced wan; it means "in time" (及). It is also written as "man" (蔓, ma-an fan), the appearance of prolonging, which is not the meaning here. "Dai" (待) means "halt" or "wait." Master Fawei says: "Waiting for what affair, what desire or joy do you seek?" Meaning, what pleasure do you seek? This interpretation is also acceptable.
