The sūtra says: "Using various medicines of the Dharma to cure the three sufferings." The commentary states: This subsequent part formally presents the teaching of the Path. There are two: first, the teaching that rescues from suffering; later, the teaching of entering the Path. This is the first. The 'three sufferings' are the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and the suffering of conditioned existence; these are experienced by the three kinds of feeling respectively. The teaching has the function of eliminating suffering, hence it is called 'medicines of the Dharma'. Practicing in accordance with the teaching, one will certainly cross over the two kinds of death, hence it is called 'cure'.
