三、辯釋宗旨不同教之大小者。如《維摩經》以不思議解脫為宗。如《大品經》以空慧為宗。此例非一，今此《觀經》即以觀佛三昧為宗，亦以念佛三昧為宗。一心迴願往生淨土為體。言教之大小者，問曰：「此經二藏之中何藏攝？二教之中何教收？」答曰：「今此《觀經》菩薩藏收，頓教攝。」

Third, distinguishing the fundamental doctrine and the scope of the teaching: As the Vimalakīrti Sūtra takes inconceivable liberation as its doctrine, and the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra takes the wisdom of emptiness as its doctrine—examples of this kind are not solitary—now this Dhyāna Sūtra takes the samādhi of contemplating the Buddha as its doctrine, and also takes the samādhi of recollecting the Buddha as its doctrine. Single-mindedly directing vows toward rebirth in the Pure Land is its substance. Regarding the scope of the teaching, it is asked: 'Between the two Piṭakas, by which Piṭaka is this sūtra subsumed? Between the two teachings, by which teaching is it encompassed?' Answer: 'Now this Dhyāna Sūtra is encompassed by the Bodhisattva Piṭaka and subsumed under the sudden teaching.'
