2.66

答曰：「佛德尊嚴，小緣不敢輒請。但見阿難，欲傳語往白世尊。佛知我意，復使阿難傳佛之語指授於我，以斯義故願見阿難。」

Answer: 'The Buddha's virtue is exalted and solemn; for a minor reason she did not dare presume to request him. She only wished to see Ānanda to have him convey words and speak to the World-Honoured One. When the Buddha knew my intention, he would again have Ānanda convey the Buddha's words to instruct me. For this reason, she wished to see Ānanda.'
