2.81

答曰：「此彰如來意密也。然韋提發言致請，即是廣開淨土之門，若為之總說，恐彼不見心猶致惑。是以一一顯現，對彼眼前，信彼所須，隨心自選。」

Answer: This reveals the hidden intention of the Tathāgata. When Vaidehī spoke to make her request, that was broadly opening the gate of pure lands. If he had only explained them in a general manner, he feared she would not see them and doubts would still remain in her mind. Therefore, he manifested them one by one before her eyes, trusting to what she needed and allowing her to choose freely according to her wish.
