答曰：「造罪之人障重，加以死苦來逼，善人雖說多經，食受之心浮散。由心散故，除罪稍輕。又佛名是一，即能攝散以住心，復教令正念稱名，由心重故，即能除罪多劫也。」

Answer: "Those who commit sins have heavy hindrances, and in addition the suffering of death presses upon them; though the good person expounds many sūtras, their mind of absorption and reception is unfocused and scattered. Because the mind is scattered, the elimination of sin is rather slight. Furthermore, the Buddha's name is single, which can gather what is scattered to fix the mind, and he further teaches them to recite the name with correct mindfulness; because the mind is earnest and concentrated, it can eliminate sins of many kalpas."
