Regarding the lowest-middle rank: this person previously received the Buddha's precepts, but after receiving them failed to uphold them and immediately broke them. Moreover, they stole property of the resident saṃgha and property of the present saṃgha, preached the Dharma with impure motives, and lacked even a single thought-moment of shame and remorse. When their life is about to end, the raging fires of hell arrive all at once, appearing right before them. Just as they see the fire, they immediately meet a good spiritual friend who explains the merits of that Buddha-land to them and encourages them to seek rebirth. Having heard this, this person immediately sees the Buddha and, following the transformed manifestation, attains rebirth. Initially not meeting goodness, the hell fires came to greet them; later encountering goodness, transformed buddhas came to greet them. All of this is entirely due to Amitābha's vow-power.
