"‘If there are sentient beings who for one day and one night uphold and maintain the eightfold fasting precepts, or for one day and one night maintain the śrāmaṇera precepts, or for one day and one night maintain the complete precepts, without deficiency in their deportment.’" The text omits the five precepts, whereas previously it omitted the ten [precepts of the novice] and the complete [precepts]; looking from one to the other, they must possess all four [sets of] precepts. The śrāmaṇera precepts are the ten precepts: splitting the seventh of the previous eight precepts into two, and adding [the precept of] not handling gold, silver, money, and jewels. The complete precepts are the precepts received by fully ordained monks and nuns. When the seven branches are fully aroused, they pervade and cover all situations regarding sentient beings, and hence they are called "complete." Second, their aspiration.
