The sūtra says: 'There is a world named Sukhāvatī.' Next is the explanation of the third [passage], the name of the country. This is the complete purity of the place; the Infinite Life Sūtra names it 'Peace and Joy' (Anle). The Qingjing jue jing and the Da Amituo jing both say that the country is named Sumati. 'Sumati' should be Sanskrit, while 'Peace and Joy' (Anle) and 'Utmost Joy' (Sukhāvatī) should be the Chinese pronunciations. According to the Drum Sound Sūtra, the world is named Peace and Joy (Anle), the country in which the Tathāgata was born is named Pure and Peaceful (Qingtai), where a sacred king dwells, its city measuring ten thousand yojanas in length and breadth, filled with the kṣatriya lineage; the country's name is as explained later.
