The sūtra says: "White cranes, peacocks, parrots, śārikas, kalaviṅkas, and jīvañjīvaka birds." Next, the second individually lists the names of the birds. The *Buddhāvataṃsaka-acintya-sūtra* states: as for 'śārika', here it is called the myna bird. Regarding the 'kalaviṅka', the *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa* states: the kalaviṅka has no correct translation here; it is named the 'sweet-voiced bird'; even before this bird's chick has emerged from its eggshell, its voice already surpasses that of other birds, so how much more so once it has left the shell! As for the 'jīvañjīvaka bird', tradition says it has one body and two heads.
