經曰：「汝勿謂此鳥實是罪報所生」，次釋有畜生，由此疑心故佛遮掃，莫謂實是罪報所生。
The sūtra says: "Do not say that these birds are genuinely born as the retribution of sins." Next, it explains the presence of animals; because of this doubt, the Buddha refutes and sweeps it away: do not say that they are genuinely born as the retribution of sins.
