The sūtra says: "That Buddha's light is immeasurable, illuminating the lands of the ten directions without hindrance; therefore he is named Amitābha." Next, this explains that he is named Amitābha because his light is immeasurable. The *Sukhāvatīvyūha Sūtra* says: The Buddha said, "The awe-inspiring spiritual light of Amitāyus Buddha is the most revered and foremost, which the lights of all Buddhas cannot equal. Because his light is manifold, he is called Amitābha, and he has up to twelve names of light. If any sentient beings encounter that light, their sins and defilements are eradicated. If those suffering in the three paths see the light, they all find rest, and after their lives end, they all attain liberation." The *Sūtra of Equal Enlightenment* says: That Buddha's nimbus constantly illuminates millions of Buddha lands in the ten directions. The *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa* says: The light of the bodies of the bodhisattvas in Amitābha's land constantly illuminates one hundred thousand yojanas; if it is the Buddha's light, it pervades the realms of the ten directions.
