"Some say: 'King Ajātaśatru's crown prince' means King Ajātaśatru himself, who at that time had not yet usurped the throne and therefore came to the Buddha's place as crown prince. Now I explain that this is not so. If that were the case, one should remove the word 'King' and only say 'Crown Prince Ajātaśatru'; since both 'King' and 'crown prince' are stated, we clearly know that father and son have different titles. Therefore the *Wuliangshou jing* should have been preached second. Furthermore, the *Guan jing* was preached specifically for the queen and her maidservants, whereas the *Wuliangshou jing* was preached for the great assembly of humans and devas."
