1.72

問：「若《觀經》是初，為夫人說者，何故下經佛還靈山令阿難重演而眾無所請？明知大眾已曾聞故。由已聞故，更欲令聞修生彼業，所以如來勅令重演定散二善。何得即以《觀經》為初？」

Question: "If the *Guan jing* was first, preached for the queen, why does the lower text state that when the Buddha returned to Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa he commanded Ānanda to repeat it, yet the assembly made no request? We clearly know this is because the great assembly had already heard it before. Because they had already heard it, he wished to have them hear it again and cultivate karma for rebirth there, which is why the Tathāgata commanded him to repeat the two kinds of goodness, concentrated and dispersed. How then can the *Guan jing* be considered first?"
