「摩訶拘絺羅」，此云大膝，骨高大故，是舍利弗舅，甚大聰明，初為外道師，名長爪梵志。

"Mahākauṣṭhila": This is translated as "Great Knee", because his bones were tall and large. He was Śāriputra's maternal uncle, exceedingly intelligent, and was originally a non-Buddhist teacher named the Long-Nailed Brāhmaṇa.
