The word "sūtra" is sūtra in Sanskrit; its translation according to meaning as qìjīng (concordant scripture) means that it expresses the principle and accords with the human mind—that is, it accords with principle and accords with capacity. As for "sūtra", the Buddhabhūmi-śāstra states: "Because it can string together and hold together, it is called a sūtra; for the sacred teaching of the Buddha strings together the meanings that should be explained and holds together the beings that are to be transformed." The explanation of the title is concluded.
