Fourth, explaining the fruit: the fruit is the function of the teaching, which also has two distinctions: First is the proximate fruit. The sūtra states: "When this person's life ends, their mind is not inverted, and they immediately attain rebirth in the Sukhāvatī world." Due to the previous recitation of the Buddha, karmic affinity is formed and becomes the cause; casting off this defiled suffering and evoking that pure joy, one immediately obtains the pure body of the Dharma-nature and dwells in the Land of Common Residence. Second is the distant fruit. Below it states: "Sentient beings who are born there all attain the stage of non-retrogression toward anuttarā samyaksaṃbodhi." This means that after being born in that land, hearing the Dharma and attaining forbearance, cultivating the path of bodhi and severing afflictions, realizing the true and ultimately accomplishing buddhahood, one immediately realizes the pure dharmakāya and dwells in the Land of Dharma-nature. The four headings listed above briefly raise the general outline; the remainder will be explained later, relying on other texts for detail.
