46.58

案道生曰：對明第五問。僧亮曰：若不生死者，亦不可定也。僧宗曰：逆取其意也。惑者復謂：若如上答，便是可生者自生，不可生者自不生。今言亦不可作此說也。寶亮曰：亦無定不生定不生，故言以修道得故不可定。

Daosheng says: This is addressed to clarify the fifth question. Sengliang says: If what is unborn does not die, that likewise cannot be determined. Sengzong says: He anticipates their intent. The deluded might further think: 'If it is as answered above, then that which can be born is spontaneously born, and that which cannot be born is spontaneously unborn.' Now he states that this also cannot be asserted. Baoliang says: There is also no fixed unborn and fixed unborn; hence he says that because it is attained through cultivating the Path, it cannot be determined.
