67.96

案僧亮曰：厭故觀行者，十六是觀，觀昧未免於愛，愛故受生也。寶亮曰：策故觀行者，正一心中此兩用故。知善義資出，以相故招生，乃至一豪之善皆不感生死。

Sengliang comments: Regarding 'contemplative practice based on revulsion': the sixteen [modes] are the contemplation; but as the contemplation remains obscure, one has not yet escaped craving, and due to craving one undergoes rebirth. Baoliang comments: Regarding 'contemplative practice based on urging onward': this is precisely because these two functions exist within a single mind. One knows that the meaning of wholesome [dharmas] aids in transcendence; but because of grasping signs, rebirth is incurred; otherwise, even a hair's breadth of good would not induce birth and death.
