Tanzhun states: It is indeed the spiritual storehouse of auspiciousness, the empty chamber that produces brightness. Examining the causes, the practices surpass the ten stages; scrutinizing the fruit, it wondrously culminates at the primal inception. Inscrutable creation cannot displace it, and profound operation cannot shake it; unified and tranquil, supremely divine, it takes permanence as its cardinal principle. Yet the manifold excellences cannot be spoken of exhaustively, so it provisionally draws on the three virtues: taking its penetrating illumination of empty brightness, it is designated prajñā; its responsive, unshakable stillness is termed dharmakāya; and the complete destruction of fetters and confusion is called vimokṣa. When these three meanings are manifested, the title of nirvāṇa is established. 'Great' is a word of the Liang region, while 'nirvāṇa' is the common language of the Western Regions. Their gloss contains many senses, and this region cannot translate it partially; hence the foreign original is directly preserved as the title.
