Sengliang comments: Below, five similes are used to explain the name of this stage. Sengzong says: The fourth concludes the fruits of the three immeasurables. 'Supreme love for an only child' refers to the seventh stage. When it says that a bodhisattva of the seventh stage sees sentient beings in suffering, even to the point of blood flowing and sprinkling the ground, this love is profound and superior to what came before. From the eighth stage onward, one mind is endowed with the myriad practices, and the dual characteristics of emptiness and existence are pacified; therefore, the designation of 'love' is submerged, and it is called 'equality in suffering.' Below there are five similes: the first illustrates 'supreme love'; the four similes from the second onward illustrate 'the only child,' clarifying the equal benevolence upon ascending this stage.
