Sengliang comments: The fruit of bodhi has the mind as its cause. Both cause and fruit cannot be explained through comparisons to concrete things; the Nirvāṇa Sūtra expounds them, and the bodhisattva no longer takes anyone as teacher. Being able to eliminate [afflictions to attain] bodhi and being able to expound it for others: this is the sixth matter. Baoliang says: The seventh matter. The true suchness of the Buddha-fruit exists yet is signless; it cannot be grasped through human analogy. Having obtained this sūtra while in the stage of causes, he settles his mind and cultivates, and furthermore can cause others to settle their minds and jointly arouse the ultimate fruit.
