Daosheng says: Space is also originally non-existent. Sengliang says: This is the sixth proposition. What is not yet born is a non-existent dharma, and space is likewise non-existent. If birth arises from non-existence, why is space not said to be born? Baoliang says: If conditioned dharmas originally lacked characteristics and efficacy of their own, then when that arises this arises, and when that perishes this perishes; they would merely be simultaneous—how could they give birth to dharmas? If both lacked characteristics and efficacy yet could give birth to conditioned dharmas, why is space not said to be born?
