Sengliang comments: Reaching the Buddha has no other road; this is called 'one.' 'All attain the Buddha Path': having the eighty thousand practices complete can reach the Buddha, hence called 'the Path.' Hearing of one vehicle and one condition, they think the śrāvakas have already completed them; this misses the point. Sengzong says: This is the eighteenth dispute. Hearing of one vehicle and one path, they think there is only one path, which damages upāya. Hearing of the streaming divisions of the srotāpanna up to the arhat, they say there is only one course and they will never become Buddhas. Both miss the Buddha's intent and result in dispute. Baoliang says: People proclaim that the four fruits all attain the Buddha Path, and in principle they truly attain Buddhahood. Why this is called a dispute is because those who say they attain it think they attain it immediately, without referring to the future. Those who say they do not attain it think they are permanently annihilated from beginning to end and will never attain it; therefore disputes arise.
