Sengliang states: In the past, the partial teaching taught that the Buddha is impermanent, secretly framing permanence [within it]; the confused lost the true purport, and the life of wisdom did not arise—this is Māra's path. Now that the complete teaching has been revealed, capable of producing complete understanding and ultimately realizing great enlightenment—this is the heavenly path. Baoliang states: Below this, there are four successive questions that together verify ultimate matters. This single question verifies that future matters are completed: the two gates of the perverse and the correct have already been opened for future sentient beings, and for the present there is nothing more to attend to. Tanxian states: The reply in the text below says: "If there are those who cannot thus clearly contemplate the permanence of the Three Jewels, they are caṇḍālas"—this refers to Māra's path. Those different from this are called the heavenly path.
