第三段中，初集經家汎明所為如來八相，成道之中且就六相以明所為：一從兜率下閻浮時、二初生時、三出家時、四成佛時、五轉法時、六涅槃時，上生兜率及住胎中二時不論。「今日」已下地動聲中自辨所為，故下文言「人非人等聞是語已身毛皆竪」。

Within the third division, first the compiler of the sūtra generally explains the Tathāgata's eight aspects of purpose; concerning the attainment of the Way, he takes six aspects to explain the purpose: first, descending from Tuṣita to Jambudvīpa; second, initial birth; third, leaving home; fourth, attaining buddhahood; fifth, turning the wheel of Dharma; sixth, nirvāṇa. Ascending to birth in Tuṣita and abiding in the womb, these two times are not discussed. From 'Today' onward, from within the sound of the earth's shaking, the purpose is self-declared; hence the text below states: 'Humans, non-humans, and the rest, having heard these words, had their body hair stand on end.'
