In the preceding contemplation of sensation, there are six distinct clauses: 1. Contemplating that the mind of sensation can serve as "the proximate cause of all outflows, called internal and external": severing all outflows, the three inversions of ignorance are called internal outflows, and the remainder are called external; 2. Explaining that due to sensation, all outflows are not cut off; 3. Explaining that due to sensation, one does not escape the three realms of existence; 4. Explaining that due to sensation, the three inversions arise; 5. Explaining that due to sensation, the fetter of craving arises; 6. Explaining that due to sensation, all karmas arise. First he directly distinguishes it; from "therefore I..." downward, he cites previous teachings to corroborate; from "therefore the wise..." downward, he concludes the contemplation and exhorts them to examine it.
